Stainless Steel Door Handles - Customer Questions

When it comes to purchasing stainless steel door handles there a few things you will probably want to ask. Below are a series of questions that are most considered by our customers. If you have any further questions let us know by emailing our Technical Support Team from the Support tab at the top of the website.

Why are some stainless steel door handles so cheap to buy?

There are two main reasons why stainless steel door handles are cheaper to buy. In almost all cases they will be made from the lower grade of stainless steel (201) and are therefore recommended for use mostly indoors. You will see grade 201 stainless steel quite a lot in the stainless door handles range and these are more than good enough for internal doors and some exterior doors too. Secondly the stainless steel lever handle designs are a hollow tube construction and in all cases this is strong enough for the applications needed in the home. There are much more expensive exterior stainless steel door handles available and these will shown when selecting the higher grade options available within the range.

What is the difference between the 201, 304 and 316 grades of stainless steel handles?

As the grade increases so does the resistance to external weathering and corrosion. 316 stainless steel is the best grade of stainless steel to use if you live next to the coast whereas if you live inland you may be fine with lighter grades. As a general rule-of-thumb, when it comes to exterior stainless steel door handles, the 201 stainless is resistant in mild to moderately corrosive environments, 304 has a high resistance to rust and 316 is a marine stainless steel.
