24 Inch Top Hung Restrictor Window Hinges Details

These hinges can replace the hinges on your current window. All you need to check is the length of the hinge needed, whether it is top hung or side hung, the outer track width (18mm is most common but some 15mm and 22mm wide hinges do exist) and the thickness of the hinge.

Top hung windows have the hinges fixed to the sides of the window i.e. left and right sides (confusing we know).

The length of the hinge is determined by measuring the complete track length from the end cap to the end of the hinge.

This hinge set is sold in a pair that is handed. No need to worry about this when ordering just ensure you open the hinges when you get them in the direction of the arrow imprinted on the top of the black end cap. Then just place them on the appropriate side of the window. They can be awkward to open and may even open out of position. The way to avoid this is to hold the corner into the end cap and open the arm with your other hand ensuring the end cap/arm end is held and the hinge can fulcrum from the corner.

When replacing upvc window hinges bear in mind this is a two-person job. The opening windows have to come out and they are heavier than you think (20-30kgs).

A few specifications about this 24 inch top hung window hinge:

  • The restrictor position allows approximately 100mm opening. This can be less taking into consideration the frame build. 100mm is important to ensure a babies head cannot fit through the opening. A second restictor position is built into these hinges to stop the window falling closed under its own weight.
  • The maximum window vent weight is 26kgs. If you are replacing a 24 inch top hung hinge this should be fine if it is a double glazed unit (not triple glazing though).
  • Maximum window vent width is 1200mm and the maximum vent height is 1200mm. That's to avoid vent drop.
  • The full opening angle of this 24 inch top hung hinge is 38 degrees with an angle of restricted opening of 8 degrees. It is also an easy clean hinge which basically means the window moves across the opening to allow your hand to reach the outside for careful cleaning.
  • This is an 18mm wide hinge (that's the outer track size). It's a fairly common size but you can get 15mm and some heavier duty 22mm thicknesses as well.
  • Two sizes are available, 13mm and 17mm. These are the two most popular sizes by far. This is just the thickness of the hinge and the difference can be seen visibly by a flat arm (13mm) or a kinked arm (17mm). Check the picture carousel to see what we mean.

A few selling points:

  • If you have children in the house then these hinges could stop falls from windows.
  • You can replace your existing hinges with these hinges and so improve the safety of your windows.
  • All H08 hinges are supplied as a pair with each side of the window containing a restrictor. We supply 2 restrictor hinges per window.
  • Green release buttons are very visible and easy to operate. Just push them down and when you close the window the restrictor will re-engage on re-opening. This eliminates the possibility that after closing the window the window is unlatched.
  • The end caps are made from steel. This is better for security and longevity. Draughts can occur over time on the hinge side due to worn end caps (usually made of plastic).
  • Manufactured from ferritic and austenitic stainless steel.
  • Have been tested by the manufacturer to meet CE standard, BSI, BBA, SBD and Document Q.
  • These 24 inch stop hung hinges are made in the UK.
