Monkey tail window handles were all the rage back in the 1930’s as the great mass UK house-building era began. The monkey tail design was adopted as they were easy to make by hand from individual forgers using wrought iron. Even today many of the original monkey tail handles can still be found on timber casement windows and now more surprisingly they are making a come-back in new homes and on new windows as a replacement product. The W57 is an antique hand-made product and still retains the inaccuracies you would expect from individually made items! Not enough inaccuracies to worry about you would hope but certainly that authentic look is achieved from this old style casement latch design.

The W57 is a mortice casement latch i.e. it relies on the nose of the handle to engage into the cut-out of the frame. The mortice plate catch is slightly tapered so that when closing the window handle the opening window will pull in slightly. It also comes with a flush frame catch or hook nose that allows its use on frames that are flush when closed. Everything is antique styled including the screws so the finished result is the best you could hope for. Not suitable for weathersealed windows. Alternatives are available.

  • The mortice nose is 32mm from its pivot point. Handle base is 58mm x 20mm with 40mm fixing centre positions.
