Deliveries during the Olympics period
Posted 25/06/2012

Order in advance to avoid delays!

The great British sporting calendar continues as the world's athletics games reach our shores this summer. What must be considered one of the mostly highly organised events this country has seen in several generations will unfortunately have an impact on some of the day to day postal and carrier services particularly across London and the South East of England.

The main points to note are as follows:

Disruption during the period 16th July - 13th September across all 'Events Areas' and designated 'Congestion Areas'.

Congestion Area

Surcharge starts 25th July and ends on 8th September.

The affected congestion zone post codes with surcharge are shown on this link: CLICK HERE

For details affecting the service level during the above period see the matrix issued by DPD to check your post code: CLICK

Red areas are upto 7 days, amber areas are upto 3 days and green are normal delivery times. All other areas in the country are unaffected.

Events Areas

Immediate postcodes in and around the events venues across the country will be locked-down and surcharges will be payable.  A lockdown venue is a secure Olympic site where, for security reasons, normal access is strictly controlled. There are over 50 lockdown venues in London and other Olympic venues, they include everything from the main Olympic stadium to hotels used by officials. Access for parcel delivery has been exclusively granted to the official logistics supplier, UPS. All parcels delivered by UPS into these sites will be subject to the UPS delivery charge and a security surcharge. The list of Lockdown postcodes is shown on this link: CLICK HERE

All deliveries outside of the above Congestion and Lockdown zones are expected to be as normal during this period. To minimise any delays consider using a delivery address outside of the affected zones, order early in advance or pick up from your local DPD depot.

DPD have instigated an 'Olympic' plan to help customers wherever they can by:

  • opening an additional facility near London Bridge depot before commencement of the Games

  • increasing the number of routes operating from London depots

  • providing drivers with assistants who will make the final delivery on foot (this will not apply to 'lockdown venues') where necessery

  • introducing early AM deliveries and late PM deliveries

  • having the option of switching parcel traffic from affected depots to alternative depots

  • increasing the number of depot/customer service staff to enable customers to collect their parcels

  • appointing an Olympic Specialist in all affected depots, who will coordinate their action plan

  • providing daily updates on the position in London throughout the whole of the Games
