You're on the lever pad designs page so what's to talk about?

Follow these guidelines to ensure you get the correct handle or click the links to walk you through the process!

Measure the centre positions of your lever, key-hole and fixing screws.

Scroll through the handles on these pages and search for your lever centre to key-hole centre size (A) and Pad to key-hole size (A1) i.e. the size on each picture (92/62 is 92mm and 62mm - there may be several to choose from). Use the 'Select Size A1' button at the top to sort all the handles available for the external size you need. Then find the correct screw positions. That's it!

Lever pad uPVC door handles are found on some PVC type doors and the pad and lever operate separately in most cases. This means the door can be closed without having to worry about key locking it when on the inside. A lot of customers ask us if they can convert from an inline single spindle handle to an off-set lever pad uPVC door handle and in some cases the answer is yes. What you will need to do is just take the handle off and observe if there is a second spindle hole about 20-30mm further down on the outside of the door. If there is just take the measurements as per our drawings on the website shown under the details for each handle.  If there isn't it might be worth taking the lock out from the side of the door and checking to see if the lock body has the extra hole lower down. If it does you will be able to drill through the outer side of the door to expose the spindle hole for its use. If you don't have this feature built into your lock then regrettably this will mean changing the complete locking system or the door itself.

Some lever pad upvc door handles need to be fixed on the outside and used as a pull handle. This is the case where the lock itself rotates all the locking points as opposed to the uplift of the handle. The key would need to be turned 2-3 complete revolutions for the locks to work. These are great locks for security but are probably more rare nowadays. The stub spindle can be a good way to turn a lever or pad handle into a pull handle. 

Security..

Good quality and secure uPVC door handles are vital these days as some burglary techniques involve breaking the backplate to get at the door lock. Hoppe have come up with a security uPVC door handle that has a special guard over the cylinder as well a chunky backplate. These are a must for any exterior door as long as they fit the lock you have.

Handing...

None of the lever pads are handed as the levers and the pad designs are symmetrical so you can set them up to point either way around when installing them to the door.

Colours...

Colours of handles vary depending on the age of the lock set and the level of demand. Most handles are available in the primary colours of white, gold and silver. White and black colours are generally powder coated finishes whereas the silver and gold are anodised. The bright finishes of chrome and brass are electro-plated finishes and in some cases they are coated by PVD or Resista for a more hard wearing surface.

Material...

The base metal of these locks can vary between aluminium alloys and a zinc alloy. Nowadays a lot of the locks are made from aluminium castings and these tend to be more lightweight but nevertheless upto the job. The zinc alloy castings are usually much heavier and give a good feel of quality. The manufacturers have tended to go for aluminium levers for ease of finishing and the lighter weight of the handle to avoid over-stressing the locks and hence less likelihood of spring failure in the lock itself (drooping handles to you and I).

Cleaning...

Only use a dry cloth and at best a very very mild soapy water solution to keep the handles looking good! If you use anything more than this the finish can deteriorate and even decompose. We certainly don't recommend any other method such as general chemical based household cleaners - avoid!
